You can find just about any style & color of flooring at about
any store. And you can get it all at wholesale prices. That’s
easy. But many people never hear my message about staying away
from 'image' companies. I wish everybody would think hard about the sellers’ motivations.
I wish everybody would buy from the store which gives them the most practical advice
and the best service after the sale. It will send a message to
all those which don’t. If you find any store which is really honest with you,
please let me know. Together, we’ll tell the
world. Until then, take it upon yourself to learn about the practical aspects of carpet selection.
Practicality is becoming increasingly popular and boy are us carpet cleaners glad. We’re so
exhausted from cleaning beige carpet in hallways and on stairs.
Today’s flooring trends
offer you so many options, there’s no reason to have to settle
for beige.
Before you plunk down your hard earned money, please consider where NOT to install carpet.
I guess I may be the only carpet guy around who recommends you buy hard goods instead of carpet, especially if you’re a detail oriented person.
If you must carpet your bedroom, here’s some
bedroom tips.
Heed the ‘Practical Aspects’ and you’ll have plenty of money left over to spoil yourself in the areas where it
IS best to install carpet.
Carpet ain't what it used to be so make the most of your purchase by insisting on higher quality materials.
Make your selection from the ground up. Pick the right padding and pick a carpet with a firm backing.
Study today’s carpet fibers. Some of them rival the natural beauty of wool
and even surpass it in durability.
Pick a carpet texture with enough variation to hide all
those little drips.
It’s hard to go wrong with carpet colors but you'll need some help from Goldilock's with
choosing the right yarn.
I make a big deal about getting you, your sample, and your carpet installer together at the jobsite for a little meeting of the minds. It’s the best time there is to discuss potential problems.
An honest installer will tell you the truth about whether your selection will look OK once it’s installed because patterns can be problems. You better be sitting down.
Consider all aspects of carpet construction. Study and compare, but keep practicality at the top of your list. I’ve summarized a few of the more
practical selections in this practicality table.
Once you’ve made your selection, it’s time for installation.
Like selection, installation takes some study. I recommend you hire a top independent installer and put him in charge from the beginning.
If you want your measurements to be correct, don’t let a salesman take them else you may end up buying too much material
or you might come up short and have to buy more and
you don't even want try to match carpet.
I recommend you just turn it over to a specialist; a top installer. This will minimize problems.
Whoever you hire, make sure you get them to agree to the terms of the Installation Agreement and
be there for the installation.
Whether you buy your carpet at cost or pay retail, take steps to
protect your investment
at the time of the sale and read up on
maintaining
your warranty.
I set up Carpet at Cost to save you money on carpet, and
to teach you all the stuff you won’t hear anywhere else. I give you
this information for free. I just hope you remember who gave it
to you - the guys who want to be your carpet cleaner.
