Sources of Flooring

As a repair guy, I see people at their worst. Hundreds of people have related their frustrating buying experiences to me over the years. I've attempted to pull all these accounts into graphic form so you can quickly compare the various sources of flooring and hopefully avoid all the frustration.  I want you to make a smart selection, save some money going in, get it installed correctly, and then let me connect you to the best cleaner in your town.  If I'm doing my job right, nobody else comes close to delivering the experience you’ll get with my service. My goal is to make sure your flooring experience is a good one.

The Table

Each box was rated from 1 to 10, with 10 being best. The ‘Totals’ line sums up all the pros & cons of buying from each source. I hope this information reminds you to consider peoples’ motivations. Study the Table and its comments and you'll be in control. You won't make the mistakes of others.

The Bar Graph

Compares the overall buying experience of each source. You may or may not experience a similar overall buying experience but you’ll probably pick your source more wisely.

The Source categories (Columns) are defined as:

Home stores: the huge 'have-it-all' Super Stores that have invaded every city of size.
Retailers: there's dozens of local carpet stores all over town.
Decorators: Interior Decorators and Designers.
Builders: Developers, Contractors big & small, Re-modelers, Handymen.
Installers: skilled Tradesmen focused on flooring installation and/or sales.
Cleaners: Carpet Cleaners who offer Flooring Sales as a sideline.
Online: like a Romance Novel, it looks good on paper, but there's no touchy-feely.
Wholesalers: distributors who facilitate trade for non-storefront flooring sellers.
Manufacturers: they make it so everyone else can enjoy it.
Joe, CAC: A Carpet Cleaner who helps people experience the Optimum Flooring Experience.

The Labor and Materials categories (Rows) are defined as:

Material Price: the end price you pay for the actual material: carpet, pad, hard goods, etc.
Material Quality: the range of quality of goods provided.
Material Selection: the range of variety of goods provided.
Labor Price: the cost you pay for installation related services.
Labor Quality: How did the job turn out. What does it look like 5,10, 15 years from now.
Cleaning: The least understood and most often overlooked factor in the flooring experience.

Feel free to put your mouse over the numbers inside the table and read my comments.
